My mods show up in game, but I also have a regular mods folder in my Sims 3 Documents with all of my mods in it. I also have a set that automatically showed up after first opening CC Magic with my mods in it. I've heard that "Unknown" files are normal while using CC Magic. These files show up as "Unknown" files but their file name tells me what they are. Right now I have the set with a subset of under it where I put my 6 converted package files. I only have 6 build/buy items in there right now because I didn't want to try to get this to work with a bunch of CC. I then loaded them into CC Magic and sorted them. I've converted all of my Sims 3 CC into package files using Multi Sims3Pack Extractor. But so far nothing that I put into CC Magic shows up in my game. Non-spellcasters cannot brew potions, but they can use cauldrons to cook. Depending on a Sim's cooking skill level, they can cook Mac and Cheese, Chili and Cioppino. They both work on lots with the "Off-the-Grid" lot challenge. One has a normal fire underneath and the other has a magical fire. There are two cauldrons available for purchase. There is a branch of magic specifically devoted to making potions, called Alchemy. Potions are brewed in batches of four, but the Copypasto spell can be used to copy potions when they run out, to avoid having to make more manually.
